The Vuzix LX1 has a display size that doesn’t match any of Android Studio’s built-in device profiles. Importing the LX1 hardware profile lets you preview layouts at the correct dimensions and create an emulator that renders your app on an LX1-sized screen.
This article walks you through two tasks:
Part 1: Import the LX1 device profile into Android Studio
Part 2: Create and launch an LX1 emulator
Part 1: Import the LX1 device profile
Download the LX1 device profile file (.xml) and save it somewhere you can find it easily.
Open Android Studio, then open your project (or any project).
From the menu bar, select Tools > Device Manager. The Device Manager panel opens on the right side of the window.

In the Device Manager panel, click the + (Add a new device) button, then choose Create Virtual Device. The Add Device window opens.

Browse to the LX1 device profile file you downloaded, select it, and click Open.
Confirm that Vuzix LX1 now appears in the device list with a resolution of 980 × 550 and a density of 240 dpi.

The LX1 profile is now saved in Android Studio and is available in every project. You only need to import it once. You can select Vuzix LX1 in the layout editor’s device drop-down to preview your layouts at the correct dimensions.
Part 2: Create an LX1 emulator
Vuzix does not provide a custom system image. The emulator runs a standard Android system image and only reproduces the LX1’s screen dimensions. It does not include the LX1 firmware and does not support:
Vuzix Speech SDK
Vuzix Barcode SDK
Cameras or microphone
Physical buttons on the device
Use the emulator for layout and general UI testing. Test any feature that depends on the items above on a physical LX1.
Open the Add Device window: select Tools > Device Manager, click +, then select Create Virtual Device.
Select Vuzix LX1 from the device list and click Next.
On the Configure virtual device screen, set the following:
Name: Vuzix LX1 (or any name you prefer)
API: API 35 “VanillaIceCream”; Android 15.0
Services: Android Open Source
System image: select the recommended image (marked with a star). If a download icon appears next to it, click it to download the image first.

Check that the summary on the right shows a resolution of 980 × 550 and a density of 240 dpi, then click Finish.
The new Vuzix LX1 virtual device appears in the Device Manager panel. Click its Run (play) button to launch the emulator, or select it as the deployment target when you run your app.
